WHat is the process?

1. Initial assessment

This involves the assessment of documents including professional qualifications, work experience, registration history, and good standing to determine eligibility to sit the written examination. 

2. Written examination

A computer delivered examination designed to test knowledge of the science and practice of dentistry and assess  of clinical judgement and reasoning skills relevant to dental practice in Australia. 

3. Practical examination

The platform for candidates to demonstrate they have the professional competence to perform safely in the role of a dentist in Australia and assesses candidates across the professional competencies of the newly qualified dentist.

INITIAL ASSESMENT

Required documents:
current passport (high quality color copy)
evidence of change of name (if applicable)
dental qualification, official certificate or testamur
academic transcript & internship certificate 
evidence of registration or license to practice dentistry 
two written professional references
evidence of practice or work history as a registered or licensed dentist.
Validity: 7 years
Application: Any time in the year
Time taken by ADC to respond: 8 weeks (approx.)

WRITTEN EXAMINATION
  • Examination: 2 days
  • Format: Computer based, 4 papers each containing 80 scenario-based and single-best answer MCQs.
  • Location: Multiple locations in Australia and overseas.
  • Eligibility: within 7 years of successful completion of the initial assessment
  • Application: two times in the year (March and September)
  • Time taken by ADC to perform: 5 months (approx.)
  • Fees: AUD 2000

Occupational English Test (OET) or IELTS academic module
  • The IELTS academic module a minimum score of seven in each of the four components (listening, reading, writing and speaking)
  • The OET, with grades of A or B in each of the four sub-tests (listening, reading, writing and speaking).
  • All components or sub-tests of either test must be passed at the specified level in a single sitting.
  • A pass in the IELTS or OET (at the specified level) is valid for two years only.

Self-assessment Test

  • consists of 100 multiple choice questions.
  • Upon completion, a tally of responses (correct, incorrect, and unanswered) will be provided
  • guidelines on how to proceed based on the score.
  • This test do not guarantee that you will receive the minimum required test equated score on the AFK Assessment.

AFK EXAM

  • Examination: 6 hours with a scheduled 30 minute break
  • Format: Electronic Test. It consists of 300 single-answer MCQs. Each question has a value of one. The lowest score for any question is zero.
  • Location: Prometric Test Centers
  • Eligibility: must have got the credential verification by NDEB
  • Scoring: re-scaled score of 75 or greater is reported as a Pass
  • No. of Attempts: 3
  • Cost: CAD $800
  • Timeframe: AFK is held two times in a year
    • February 05-06, 2021; Registration Deadline: November 16, 2020, 21:00 EST

  • Examination: 5 1/2 hours with a scheduled 30 minute break
  • Format: Electronic Test. It consists of 120-150 single-answer and multiple answer MCQs. Each question has a value of one. The lowest score for any question is zero.
  • Location: Prometric Test Centers in Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Belgium, and England.
  • Eligibility: must have passed the AFK examination
  • Scoring: re-scaled score of 75 or greater is reported as a Pass
  • No. of Attempts: 3
  • Cost: CAD $1350
  • Timeframe: ACJ is held two times in a year
    • November 27-28, 2020; Registration Deadline: October 19, 2020, 21:00 EST

HOW TO REGISTER YOURSELF FOR ACJ?

CLINICAL SKILLS

  • Examination: 2-day assessment
  • Format: to perform twelve (12) dental procedures on simulated patients (manikins) in a clinical setting.
  • Location: Faculties of Dentistry in Canada and in New Zealand.
  • Eligibility: must have passed the AFK examination
  • Scoring: The restorative and endodontic requirements are graded using the four point grading system.
  • No. of Attempts: 3
  • Cost: CAD $9000

  • Location: Prometric Test Centers
  • Eligibility: must have got the ECE (Essential Credential Evaluation) 
  • Scoring: re-scaled score of 75 or greater is reported as a Pass
  • No. of Attempts: 5
  • Cost: USD 445 + USD 210 processing fee

NBDE PART-2 EXAM

  • Examination: 12 hours and 30 minutes, including tutorials, scheduled breaks, and a survey.
  • Format:  a comprehensive examination consisting of 500 items. For each discipline, approximately 80% of the items are stand-alone, while approximately 20% are interdisciplinary and case-based. A case consists of a patient scenario, patient history, and a set of discipline-based items relevant to the scenario.
  • Location: Prometric Test Centers in USA.
  • Eligibility: must have passed the NBDE Part-1 exam.
  • Scoring: re-scaled score of 75 or greater is reported as a Pass
  • No. of Attempts: 5
  • Cost: USD 490 + USD 210 processing fee
